We specialise in the sale and purchase of rare and out of print books on architecture and building, landscape design, design history, international exhibitions, town planning, photography and fine art mainly published 1800-1950. Our stock includes original drawings and photographs. Our website complements our shop in York, England which is located just five minutes from York Minster.

Janette Ray established Janette Ray Rare and Out of Print Books in 1995 with a specific focus on architecture, design, photography and landscape subjects to exploit her personal expertise in these areas.
The business initially operated from private premises but as it flourished it soon outgrew these.
In 2000 Janette Ray purchased 8 Bootham York which is a medieval timber framed building leaning up against the walls of St Mary's Abbey and just minutes from York Minster.
Many buildings illustrated erected between 1860 and 1870.
This was the first published study on the gothic revival, and although it is widely available in a reprint this is a lovely copy of the original decorated and stamped cloth possibly designed by Eastlake to reflect the gothic subject matter of the book.
Sl. rubbed at head and base of spine, scratch on spine and related small tear else a very good copy.

26pp illustrated with b/w plates of various designed garden ornaments.
5pp introductory text.
The remainder illustrates various terra cottas but refers to a much larger catalogue available with over 1000 examples.
