McCombie Smith Architects was established in 1986, specialising in mostly domestic and domestic scale projects in and around the Rutland area. Many of the projects have involved extensions and refurbishments to either Grade I and Grade II Listed Buildings, or have involved sensitive sites within many of Rutland's Conservation Areas. In addition the Practice has experience of a number of small scale commercial projects, especially works on community buildings.

McCombie Smith Architects has won the George Phillips award for excellence, and has a good track record on Listed Buildings and work in Conservation Areas. The practice is adept at combining modern technology with traditional forms.

Full digital drawings can be prepared for Planning, Listed Building and Building Regulation Applications.
Specifications can be prepared and advice is offered on tendering and contract administration.
Advice is also available on energy efficiency improvements, the introduction of renewable energy equipment, and disabled accessibility.
McCombie Smith Architects have worked on a wide range of domestic projects from the smallest porch extension to major refurbishment and extensions to large country houses; including one off houses for both speculative and bespoke clients.
Most projects are traditionally constructed with an emphasis on local materials including stone, brick, with Collyweston and slate roofing.
