Established in 2000 by practice principal Alice Brown, the practice has kept its approachable, genuine nature, taking pride in positive working relationships with clients and consultants.

Predominantly working on educational, community and residential projects for a wide range of clients, the practice specialises in work to existing buildings, including reuse, repair and conservation.Committed to achieving imaginative and high-quality building design in an environmentally responsible manner, this approach is based on detailed analysis and understanding of clients' aspirations.

Alice studied architecture at Cambridge University, where she graduated with a 1st class honours degree, and at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Following completion of her diploma, Alice gained a range of experience in a number of renowned design practices, including Colin St John Wilson & Partners where she spent a year working on the British Library.
Services
01 Community & Social Engagement - Through working closely with charities, community groups, local authorities and schools, AAB are primarily focused on creating better places and buildings for our communities, engaging with real issues that have positive social, economic and cultural value.
02 Historical & Contextual Understanding - Our interest and continual research into the evolution of buildings and places feeds into an on- going pool of knowledge that actively contributes to our architectural design and practice.
Our passion for adapting, converting and extending existing buildings stems from our approach to sustainability; we are concerned with the long-term management and care of buildings and the future of our built environment.
It is important to us for heritage to be preserved for future generations, while making them suitable for 21st century use.
We have long-term experience in the conservation sector; designing and delivering projects within historic contexts and unlocking potential in existing sites, both for listed buildings and in conservation areas.
The quality of the design service was excellent throughout: from expanding the architectural possibilities of a restricted space and the close attention to detail in its execution.
We are delighted with the end results and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this practice to future clients.
The project to renovate our kitchen/dining area has transformed the way that we live and spend time as a family - the space achieves everything we wanted and much more, both in terms of the big space and also the fine detail.
