Chris Carter Architecture is a Winchester based Architectural Practice offering high quality yet personal support to clients undertaking a range of residential and commercial projects across Southern England and the Channel Islands. Since opening in 1995, working with a small team the practice offers both private and commercial clients Architectural Services including design, planning applications, building regulations, contract administration, project management and contract administration.
We undertake projects within the urban fabric, countryside and local South Downs and New Forest National Parks. Many of our private clients have never procured a building or worked with an Architect before but with our guidance the experience is both fun and rewarding. We believe our role is to assist our clients in the realisation of their building aspirations through quality design and understanding of their needs.
The brief and content of each project is different and we will deliver a bespoke solution that reflects our client's taste, needs and budget.

New House, Winchester
Report
We were commissioned to obtain consent for a new house in the garden of a property in St Cross, Winchester and gain consent to extend the existing house.
The consent was granted and the site sold.
We were then engaged to assist with the new 'self-build'.
The project was a large 5 bedroom house, traditionally constructed but with a contemporary interior.
We assisted with detailed design and specification, selection of materials and products, organising sub-contractors and inspecting their work as well as certifying progress to the bank for financial draw downs.

New Marina facilities, Guernsey
Report
We were approached to investigate options for refurbishment of an existing building providing bar, restaurant and office facilities for a small marina on Guernsey.
The existing building, constructed in the 1960's was in need of a thorough overhaul and our client was keen to enhance the services offered so ultimately it was decided that the building should be replaced.
The site is adjacent to a Conservation Area and an Area of Natural Significance so the replacement building is in a sensitive location.

Extensions and refurbishments – residential
Report
The majority of our work is alteration and extension of homes in the Winchester area, but extending to other parts of Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey and Dorset.
We typically work for families wanting a modern and up to date way of living and have identified the value in altering the property they have rather than selling and moving on.
We understand the needs of a modern and growing family and can advise how the home should adapt as the family grows and the needs change.
A successful project meets the needs of the client until they want to downsize when the children have left, at which point we will happily design the retirement home too.
