Tadw Architects
TADW, an acronym for The Architectural Design Workshop, was born in 1982 out of a desire to create social housing projects in the North West by Graham Jones and George Noworyta. The Practice originally occupied shop front offices on the busy A6 in Stockport and quickly established itself, extending its list of clients and reputation. Organic expansion over the years saw the range of TADW projects increase to encompass many building types.

By the start of the new millennium the Practice was starting to outgrow its premises. The proximity of motorway and rail networks has enabled the Practice to service the North West and Midlands and this quality of service has recently been accredited with local and national recognition.
Services
The underlying force which drives our work is a passionate commitment to create good architecture.
Each design solution is considered in terms of its historic and cultural context and is unique with its own creative and innovative solution.
We learn from our understanding of the past and balance a pragmatic solution with good design and within a fixed time and cost framework.
We aspire to the Vitruvian principles of "Commoditie, Firmenes and Delight" as a prerequisite of "well building".
Good design is a combination of conceptual, visual and functional requirements and its success is measured by the enthusiasm of user, resident and community.
A development of fifty one apartments with associated parking for a mixed tenure of shared ownership, affordable rent and for sale in the centre of Stockport.
The scheme is centred around the locally listed Royal Oak Brewery complex which dates from the 19th century.
The original Brewery building has been retained and extended with two new contemporary wings to the west and east of the site enclosing a south facing courtyard which contains amenity space including a secured play area and disabled parking.
Selwyn Street is a new development of 18 houses on a steeply sloping site close to Oldham Town Centre - the first new-build scheme to be completed in the Oldham/Rochdale Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder and sets a benchmark in terms of design and sustainability.
The scheme has been designed to meet the needs of a local community where there is an increasing demand for larger family houses which comprise four, five and seven bedrooms.
Dwellings are 'tenure blind' and include homes for rent, shared ownership and outright sale.
This unique scheme is located within Stockport Market / Underbanks Conservation Area and includes the repair and refurbishment of a grade II listed building which contains the old Stockport dungeons and medieval town walls, and conversion of adjoining buildings into a mixed development of 20 No. residential and 7 No. retail units.
As our understanding of the site increased, so the design developed.
We discovered historic and architectural features which had an effect on the proposed layout.
Many have since contributed positively to the design and are valued additions.
The Inspire Centre, Levenshulme, is a mixed development of 14 no. 1 and 2 bedroom flats and a community hub comprising a Business Centre, a cafe, three meeting rooms, worship space, a social media centre and a multi-purpose space for 50 people.
Part of the accommodation is contained within the existing Church building and part in a new, 4 storey contemporary extension set back from the street frontage, to fully expose the existing spire as a focal point.
There is a 2 storey glazed link between the Church and the newbuild extension, which contains a double height atrium providing a dynamic element in the community centre and a 2 storey exhibition space for community use which reflects the scale of the original Church and its windows.
