Services
My name is Bronwen Thomas and I am a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute, with broad experience in providing my landscape design services to both private consultancies and local governments.
I have been in full-time practice in England, Scotland, and Wales for well over thirty years, and established my Registered Practice, Bronwen Thomas Landscape Architect, in Llantrisant, South Wales, in 1994.
Working either as a sole practitioner, or in inter-disciplinary collaborations, I have a wide range of clients within the public sector, environmental and construction service professionals, private businesses and individuals, and the third sector.
When done well, the creation of new landscapes appropriate for today's needs, respect and conserve their historical context and enhance their heritage value.
The successful integration of new with old requires a thorough understanding and appreciation of the cultural significance, and historic fabric of the specific landscape.
I have long had a keen interest in this aspect of landscape design.
Increasingly, everyone is encouraged to have a say in their local environmental change and regeneration.
I provide studies primarily related to the environmental and visual aspects of the landscape on a national, regional, and local level.
Whatever the scale, the main objective is to define and evaluate the significance of landscape elements and qualities and potential changes, thereby devising strategies and proposals for landscape conservation and enhancement.
A LVIA is required to accompany planning applications for most proposed developments that may make changes to the landscape.
I prepare LVIA reports on various scales, tailoring the complexity of the assessment to be commensurate with the scale and likely impact of the development.
I have produced hand-drawn maps and illustrations in a professional capacity for many years.
This is a good method to convey character and atmosphere, giving emphasis where required as well as being engaging to look at.
This has led to the development of specific styles, usually based on line drawings with colour washes.
The use of a bird's-eye view has proved to be an excellent way to graphically put across concepts and information about the landscape and built environment, and express a sense of place.
